I'm pasting in the =20 description below and also attaching the .doc file. --Chris George Washington University Executive Director =96 The University Writing Program The University Writing Program at The George Washington University =20 seeks applications for an Associate Professor or Professor to serve as =20= Executive Director to the First-Year Writing, WID, and Writing Center =20= branches of the Program. We seek a recognized scholar in writing who =20 can develop assessment tools to drive program improvement and =20 strengthen student writing, and an experienced, dynamic leader who can =20= help integrate the WID, Writing Center, and First-Year Writing =20 components of the Program. Appointment will be at the level of =20 Associate Professor or Professor with tenure. The George Washington University has made a significant commitment to =20= this independent writing program. The UWP includes a 4-credit writing =20= class (UW20) for all 2400 first-year students, Writing in the =20 Discipline (WID) courses, and a Writing Center. Staffing includes =20 directors and deputy directors of both First-Year Writing and WID, a =20 Writing Center director, and support staff. Theme-based UW20 courses =20 are taught by a largely full-time, multidisciplinary faculty and are =20 guided by a template with five goals: (a) critical reading and =20 analytic thinking; (b) use of information resources, (c) rhetorical =20 principles including genre and audience; (d) analysis, synthesis, and =20= coherence of argument; and (e) habit and discipline of careful =20 writing. Faculty members in the First-Year Writing Program are =20 partnered with librarians. Annual assessment projects have focused on =20= programmatic issues and student outcomes. Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in rhetoric and =20 composition or in a closely related field, as well as at least two =20 years experience in administration of a college or university writing =20= program or a writing center. Applicants also must have a record of =20 productive scholarship in rhetoric and composition. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants with =20= experience working with multidisciplinary, full-time faculty, and with =20= experience in a WID or WAC program. Preference will also be given to =20 candidates who have a history of success in winning external funding =20 in support of scholarship in the field.
