I would argue that the course in some cases doesn't start until those quest=
ions happen.

My job as I have come to conceive of it is to get them to that moment, rath=
er than get them to "my moment."
So if we are planning research into public issues of interest to them (as w=
e were doing today), I am crafting questions
with them, rather than telling them the process, having them research on th=
eir own.  Friday we are in the library together.
And these are juniors and seniors!  But they are beginners when it comes to=
 researching issues in the public sphere.

How do these moments happen in other subjects?
