From teaching_composition@mailman.eppg.com Fri Jun 15 23:15:02 2007 From: teaching_composition@mailman.eppg.com (Chris Anson) Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2007 18:15:02 -0400 Subject: [Teaching_Composition] Powering Down for Summer Message-ID: --Apple-Mail-9--372444144 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed With the end of the academic year, our voices have predictably faded and it's time for our module discussions to go dormant until the fall. Remember, though, that the list is available for our use during the summer to discuss issues associated with teaching writing and to share news and announcements. Many thanks to Alexis Ramsey and Kristin Seas for leading us in our May module (and a bit of June) on peer mentoring and online teacher development. It was especially helpful to explore the potential of electronic resource development and to weigh it against meetings, workshops, and other face-to-face methods. I also want to offer our collective thanks to all of this year's module leaders: Bill Thelin, University of Akron; Suzanne Blum Malley, Columbia College Chicago; Rolf Norgaard, University of Colorado at Boulder; Heather Lettner-Rust, Longwood University; Jay Szczepanski, Florida State University; Jennifer Nutefall and Phyllis Mentzell Ryder, George Washington University; Debra Dew, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs; and Alexis Ramsey and Kristin Seas, Pudue University. Our list discussions are already archived at http:// mailman.eppg.com/pipermail/teaching_composition/, and we'll soon update the stored modules to reflect the past year's topics (at http://www.mhhe.com/socscience/english/tc/prevtopics.html). Thanks as well to Anne Harvey Kilburn, who works behind the scenes to help administer TeachingComp; and to the good people at McGraw-Hill for their sponsorship of this and other projects designed to provide free resources to teachers of writing and administrators of writing programs. Finally, thanks to all of you for another year of stimulating discussions, great ideas, and helpful information. As always, I'm happy to get your reflections on how TeachingComp went this year and how it might be improved. We're already working hard to create the playlist for 2007-2008, but if you have possible module leaders in mind who can address topics we haven't explored recently, please let me know (chris_anson@ncsu.edu). McGraw-Hill is also in the midst of an exciting teacher-development project that I hope you'll learn about soon. Best wishes for a productive and enjoyable summer. Chris Anson, Moderator -- Chris M.
