POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Salt Lake Community College English Department invites applications for
a tenure track position, to begin August 2007; screening to begin in
January 2007 and the position will remain open until filled. Master's
degree required, with specialty in rhetoric and composition, writing
theory, or related disciplines.
A successful applicant will join a vital and innovative 21 member
department offering both an A.A. and an A.S. degree with an emphasis in
English. The department has led the college in developing and offering
courses that satisfy a recently launched diversity requirement. It has
established a campus Writing Center and a Community Writing Center located
in downtown Salt Lake City. Faculty teach first and second year
composition, creative writing, online or technology-enhanced courses and
distance education, service learning, and a variety of other textual and
cultural studies courses based upon qualifications. The department web

demonstrate understanding and proficiency with writing technologies,
current rhetorical theories, critical theories, and sound pedagogical
practices. Salary is commensurate with experience; excellent health and

The successful applicant will:
* teach a variety of courses and may advise in the campus Writing
Center or the Community Writing Center
* participate in writing program development and coordination
* keep pace with literacies of the 21st century through curriculum
development and text selection for courses such as diversity and creative
non-fiction
* demonstrate commitment to professional development and make
substantive contributions to the department
* provide service to the institution in becoming a premier two year
college
* supply leadership in course development, adjunct training, service
learning, learning communities, interdisciplinary projects, student writing
assessment and other institutional issues

dramatic scenery. One of the largest community colleges in the nation, Salt
