I'm greatly saddened to announce that Rick Straub, of Florida State
University, died a few days ago in an accident outside Philadelphia. He
was apparently on his way to teach in FSU's London program. I have very
few other details at this time.

Many of you will remember Rick's module on TeachingComp (on response to
student writing) and the active discussions it generated as well as
Rick's thorough, thoughtful, and humane advice to us. He had a keen
interest in this topic, and much of his scholarship focused on it in
ways that continue to advance our understanding of how we read and
evaluate student's writing and how students react to what we tell them.

We've lost a good colleague and terrific person.
