Greetings!

I would like to point out a very good article, which I consulted for this
module, yet did not mention prominently. The article, “The Best of Both
Worlds: Teaching Basic Writing in Class and Online” by Linda Stine, is
located in the Fall 2004 issue of the Journal of Basic Writing (23.2). In
this article, Stine suggests that we should try to understand the key
concepts which advance the practices of teaching basic writing with
technology. And, while her work focuses on the practice between classroom
and online environments, which are mentioned in this module, I would like
to try to discuss the political and technical dilemmas which confront us
(e.g. department politics, technological determinism, life beyond/without
WebCT, and how to start web-based courses from “scratch”), responding to
her call for further discussion.

The first questions for discussion: What is your “plan” for teaching basic
writers online? Or, what are you doing currently with your online basic
writing course that seems to work well?

If you are not teaching basic writing online or do not have a “plan” for
teaching basic writing online, can members of the listserv help you to
formulate a “plan” or proposal for your institution?
